Rooting Dream n°3 is part of the Slow- Motion series started in 2025. I painted this canvas here, in Texas, USA. The work centers on my redundant theme of trees – a subject I hold dear, symbolizing steadfastness and a profound connection to place. The tree, depicted as an entity that never leaves its patch of earth yet manages to grow deep, resilient roots, stands as a metaphor for stability and endurance. The composition contrasts the slow, enduring existence of trees with the transient, high-speed movement of humans, highlighting the tension between nature’s quiet persistence and the frenetic pace of modern life. The painting process unfolds in two distinct phases. Initially, I paint a tranquil landscape, embodying the serenity and timelessness of nature. In a bold, transformative gesture, dynamic brush strokes are later layered across the scene, partially obscuring and altering the original image. This technique visually enacts the contrast at the heart of work – slow trees versus fast-motion humans – prompting viewers to question the impact of human activity on the landscape. My own reflection, prompted by my brother’s question about “destroying” the serene landscape with energetic brushwork, underscores the deeper inquiry: why do we disrupt our natural surroundings and, by extension, ourselves? Ultimately, “Rooting Dream n°3” invites contemplation on the balance between stillness and change, urging us to consider our relationship to nature and the consequences of our restless drive for progress.
