When I created this painting as part of my “In Motion” series, my focus was on capturing the pulse and chaos of urban life through a single, isolated figure. The woman stands in the heart of a New York subway, her presence rendered with almost photographic clarity, while the world around her dissolves into a rush of abstract shapes and fragmented color. I deliberately set her apart from her surroundings, using a contrast of realism and abstraction to evoke a sense of confusion and disorientation – mirroring the inner experience of being both part of and removed from the city’s relentless flow. Above and around her, I introduced a collision of energetic particles, which intensify the composition’s sense of upheaval, while the interplay of reds and greens injects a palpable tension throughout the scene. My intention was to invite viewers to contemplate the fleeting, often overwhelming nature of movement and connection in the city, and how moments of clarity can emerge amid the blur of constant motion.
