When I began my permaculture garden in 2018, I found myself captivated by the vibrant tapestry of contrasts woven throughout nature. As I observed plants, insects, animals, and trees moving together in an intricate dance- prey and predator engaged in an endless cycle – I became acutely aware of nature’s own wisdom, a rhythm so different from the programmed and conditioned patterns of thought I was used to. In creating this piece, I chose the castor plant as a symbol: its lush, extravagant leaves embody the abundance of life, while its fruit, capable of taking a human life, serves as a stark reminder of nature’s duality. Through this painting, I invite the viewer to contemplate the delicate balance of existence, where life and death are inseparable, and to sense the profound mystery at the heart of the natural world.
